A legacy in photographs
Explore the tremendous work of Guggenheim Fellow (1965) Scott Hyde (b.1926-d.2021)
The Scott Hyde Archive is the result of 70+ years of creative innovation. The purpose of the Archive is to provide a place of preservation, documentation and creation.
With photographs taken by Scott Hyde ranging back to 1945, many of the items available need to be taken care of in such a way to keep them viable for generations.
Scott Hyde enjoyed breaking conventions more than anything, but his simple city scene shots allow us to venture into the past. Presently, portions of research time is spent identifying people and places within the images. Ultimately, a new landscape may unfold, showing one of the world’s most popular cities in a completely refreshed way.
Once the task of compiling the archive has been completed, a database with every photo, negative, and print will be available for the use of scholars, institutions, and artists. The inclusive nature of Scott’s philosophy on art makes the decision to share his work with others, very simple. Individuals interested in accessing material in the archive will, one day, be able to call up specific images-down to the date and minute subject matter, say streetlamps in 1950’s New York City- with only a few mouse clicks.
There are so many aspects of the collection that composes the archive, it is difficult to enumerate them in a single webpage.
Website is currently under construction.
